A few of my favorite things

Fun Sunday, today! The sellers for the first-ever RR Garden Bazaar got together here to get acquainted and stake their space claims. It was great having everyone in the same place at the same time and soon everyone had found their spot … but, talking about the goods each had put together for the sale soon had us caravanning to the other’s houses for a look-see. Here’s a taste of what we’ve put together for you next weekend, starting with yours truly:

RANCHO: Because the ol’ Rancho has felt “done” for a while, and because feeling done has sometimes meant I need a new project (read: new house), we’ve decided to heed the market and have a clear-out instead. So, pulling from every corner I’ve put together an eclectic collection of garden and decorative items that should appeal to readers of this blog. There’s out-and-out junk, classic garden items, industrial coolness, outdoor furniture, artwork and projects by myself and Paul, and stuff that defies categorization. There are plants and planters of course, and remember this: Everything. Is. For. Sale. Just ask. Next stop: Bonnie’s house …

Bonnie's bounty

BONNIE: I invited Bonnie to sell at the Bazaar because I loved (and bought) several of her colorful container gardens when she had a sale a while back. Colorful, kitschy and fun, she had a knack for picking just the right container and plants … I’m happy to say she’s done more of the same for our sale. Culled from here, there and eBay, she’s found even more creative containers for more terrific mini-gardens. She’s also created sparkling and candy-colored found-object glass garden totems and flowers … and, husband Bruce has put together a selection of wooden planter boxes and birdhouses. If your garden or interior could use a touch of cheerful whimsy, or you need a special holiday gift, you’ll definitely want to check out B & B’s offerings!

Vickie's intrigues

VICKIE: Vickie’s beautifully rusty containers caught my eye at an otherwise boring sale last year … they were so “left field” I found them irresistible. Well, she’s created even more, using even more unexpected items as planters. Like what? Well, how about a rusted pitchfork, an antique doll’s carriage, a Victorian-look stiletto bootie, or a metal toy truck? She’s also got an antique lantern, kitchen items and still more toys, all wittily re-purposed as succulent planters. If your garden, outdoor room, home, or hard-to-buy-for-friend, could use a unique decorative accent, Vickie’s your gal!

Mike's selects

MIKE: Plant dealer Mike Dignan can be found Saturdays at the downtown farmer’s market with a reliable supply of healthy, gorgeous succulents. And, he’s supplying same for the Bazaar. But since he’ll be occupied elsewhere during the sale, friend of the Rancho, Britney, will be selling for him. Need a plant for that new pot or planter? Britney’s got the succulent hook-up!
